High Court Orders Immediate Release of MP Kaguchia on KSh100,000 Bail

The High Court on Monday, August 3, ordered the release of Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia on a KSh100,000 cash bail after his arrest over controversial remarks made at a political rally in Nyeri.

Lady Justice Njoki Mwangi granted interim relief, directed the MP to serve the application on the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions, and scheduled the case for a virtual hearing on September 16, 2026.

Kaguchia was arrested by DCI officers on Monday after spending the night at Royal Media Services, where he said he had sought refuge from police.

Authorities are investigating remarks in which he allegedly warned Mt Kenya residents against voting for President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, comments that are being scrutinized for possible incitement.

Kenya Named East Africa's Biggest Cybercrime Hotspot

Kenya has been identified by Interpol as East Africa's leading cybercrime hotspot, driven by the country's high volume of digital transactions, weak identity verification systems in the telecommunications sector, and a sharp rise in automated financial fraud.

The report highlights a 327% increase in fraudulent SIM registrations in 2025, more than 46,000 distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting telecom networks, and identifies Nairobi as the country's most vulnerable cybercrime hub.

President Ruto Hosts Friends Church (Quakers) Delegation at State House

President William Ruto hosted leaders and members of the Friends Church (Quakers) at State House, Nairobi, in a meeting attended by hundreds of faithful and senior government officials, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

The engagement brought together religious and political leaders from across the country and is part of the President's ongoing outreach to faith-based organizations.

The Friends Church is one of the largest Christian denominations in Western Kenya and sponsors numerous schools, hospitals, and other community institutions including Friends School Kamusinga, Friends School Chavakali and Kaimosi Friends University College.

Kenya Met Forecasts Dry Weather Across Most Parts of the Country This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast mostly sunny and dry weather across much of the country from August 4 to August 10, with rain expected in parts of Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and the Central Highlands.

Residents in Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang'a and surrounding counties should expect cool, cloudy conditions and chilly mornings, while temperatures in northern and coastal regions are likely to exceed 30°C.

Night-time temperatures could fall below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and southern Kenya. Despite the seasonal cold, Kenya Met says average temperatures will remain warmer than normal, with isolated heavy rainfall possible in a few areas.

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has assured Gengetone artiste Maddox that he can revive his music career after being admitted to a rehabilitation centre for addiction recovery.

Mosiria said he rescued the musician from the streets along Mirema Drive following a distress call and helped secure his admission at the Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction.

He encouraged Maddox to stay committed to his recovery, promising that he could return to the studio as a star within months, while emphasizing that addiction should not define a person's future.
